DONNA SUMMER

Donna Summer

Donna Summer was not only one of music’s most talented vocalists our generation had ever seen, she was a prolific songwriter as well.  Most of the general public was unaware that she had written the majority of her hits as well as the bulk of her album material.  Some in combination with other songwriters as well, but she was also a celebrated painter in addition.  A very strong woman of faith and family, the music business often found her at odds with her belief and, as often happens in that industry, sometimes lies about her would surface that would undermine efforts in her career.  Despite those, she kept recording past her commercial “heyday” and left behind a huge legacy of excellent material, much of which was NOT the hit songs you know from the radio.

As a big fan of her voice and music, her passing left a personal void for me as I often found comfort in her music.  There are three vocalists who I have found in my lifetime that can take me to my “calm place” – those vocalists being Karen Carpenter, Barbra Streisand, and Donna Summer.   With 2 of them now gone from this plane of existence, I sometimes find it hard to listen to them as I know “new” music will be hard to come by from those great voices; no “new” memories will be made.  While I will always cherish the memories I have from their existing catalogs, I will always pine for new ones to be made.

So, as a vocalist myself, why not make them?

With some limited resources but being a creative person, I present two posthumous duets with Donna Summer and me.  I hope you will enjoy them.

Here’s “Heaven Knows”, and “Love Is In Control”.
